Amauri Martinez files to run for school board, setting up race for place 4.

The race for Stephenville ISD school board is officially on.

Local businessman Amauri Martinez has filed to run for place 4, setting up a race between himself and Luke Sims.

Board president Dr. Ann Calahan, who is not seeking another term, currently serves on place 4.

“Global and local events continue to bring challenges to our school district and community,” Martinez states on his website. “Each challenge that the school district faces is an opportunity for us to come together to deliver effective solutions.

“Our actions must speak louder than our words.”

Matt Miller is running for place 5, currently held by Dr. Ed Dittfurth, who has also decided not to seek re-election.

The filing period for the May 7 election ends Friday, Feb. 18.

The last day to register to vote is Thursday, April 7, and early voting begins April 25.
