Beneath the Book Club’s March read: ‘Something in the Water’ was, well, a little meh for me.

I wanted to love it. I really did.
But Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman felt a little flat.
The premise was intriguing; an attractive, successful couple honeymooning in Bora Bora when they find sunken treasure in the ocean, remnants of a plane crash.
I felt the couple’s struggle on what to do with the loot: Sell it for a life of comfort and risk being hunted by the bad guys or ditch it all together and go home.
I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy the storyline, but it moved a little slower than I would have liked and the ending felt rushed.
What did you think?
1. Would you recommend this book to someone? Why or why not?
No. The storyline was just too slow for my liking.
2. What kind of reader would most enjoy this book?
Those who like a slow-paced mystery with a storyline in a beautiful setting.
3. Did you enjoy this author’s writing style?
Yes. Clean writing, clear storytelling.
4. Which character did you find the most intriguing?
Erin. I loved her job as a documentarian and fearlessness. (I also liked Eddie.)
5. What was the most satisfying or disappointing part of this story?
The ending felt rushed and incomplete. I would have liked more about the people in the plane crash and what was on that flash drive.
Rate this book on a scale of 1 to 10.
I give it a 6.
