The Stephenville ISD board of trustees on Wednesday named Kelly Magin, executive director of curriculum and instruction, as interim superintendent.

Magin will fill the role beginning Sept. 1 until the board hires a permanent replacement for Superintendent Matt Underwood, who is leaving the district at the end of the month.

The board also interviewed a search firm from the Texas Association of School Boards and voted to contract their services to find a permanent superintendent.

The board hopes to have a new superintendent named by Dec. 1.

Underwood is leaving the district after seven years to become Ranger College’s senior vice president of Erath and Brown counties.
