Calm Waters: This new head spa in Stephenville offers the ultimate experience in relaxation.

Updated: 2 hours ago

This part of my hour-long treatment was the ultimate in luxury.

I indulged in the most luxurious shampoo of my life today, and not only is my mane super soft, I am relaxed in a way that I haven’t been in months.

The amazing experience took place at a new spa in Stephenville specializing in wellness and relaxation.

With origins in Japanese culture, Calm Waters Spa offers services designed to give special attention to the scalp and hair with deep conditioning treatments, facials and upper body massage.

For months my TikTok feed has shown women on repeat enjoying the experience of a head spa and I secretly wished there was a place nearby that offered similar treatments.

Now there is.

Owner Bonnie Almaguer was a hair stylist for many years before transitioning into the wellness side of the business.

She opened Calm Waters Spa in November.

“We live such busy lives – our plates are always full – and we forget the importance of wellness,” Bonnie told Beneath the Surface News.

“I wanted to bring something different to Stephenville that offers a calm, relaxing experience through scalp and hair care.”

My hour-long treatment began with a scalp analysis, which helped Bonnie determine the kind of treatment I needed.

Then I changed into a robe and slipped underneath a sheet and blanket onto a heated table.

In a dimly-lit room with spa music playing, my eyes were covered with a warm mask and my scalp was gently massaged.

Warm water began to trickle down my head as Bonnie began to wash and condition my hair with high-quality products that smelled like heaven.

(She uses Paul Mitchell Tea Tree or you can pay a little extra for L’ANZA.)

Avocado oil was used to gently exfoliate the buildup on my scalp, then a Japanese ring poured warm water down my hair while my shoulders, arms and hands were massaged with hot stones.

Oh, and there was steam too.

I cannot remember the last time I felt this relaxed.

For an entire hour, I was enveloped in a warm cocoon of pure luxury; I didn’t think about emails or my grocery list or stories yet to be written.

I was fully in the moment; enjoying the overload of pampering I was receiving and focused on nothing but total relaxation.

Calm Waters Spa is located at 1481 W. South Loop, suite 106 (in the building next to Ace Hardware).

Bonnie offers a variety of head spa packages which also includes facials and enhancements like hand scrubs, paraffin treatments and blowouts.

She also offers services for men like haircuts, hot towel shaves and haircuts.

“I try to make this feel like the world stops for a little while for you,” Bonnie said. “There’s a lot of pampering in this experience.”

I had a blowout at the end of my treatment and my hair and scalp have never felt better.

All finished.
