Cavender’s (almost) set to open 16,000 square foot store at The Stable in Stephenville.
Updated: Nov 4
Cavender's took a giant step forward Wednesday night and is now one step closer to opening a new store in Stephenville.
Members of the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission heard from an architect that works for the family-owned company.
Perry Thompson told the committee that he is an independent architect who has worked for Cavender’s for the past 16 years.
Thompson asked for and received a zoning change for Cavender’s to build a 16,380 square-foot store at The Stable, where Chick-fil-A and McAlister’s Deli are located.
The matter will now be heard by the Stephenville City Council next week.
Meanwhile, Jeff Sandford, executive director of Stephenville Economic Development Authority, told Beneath the Surface News that construction could begin as soon as Dec. 1.
“SEDA always enjoys welcoming businesses to town who understand our culture,” Sandford said.
“The Cavender family has a legacy of promoting the cowboy spirit, and their name recognition will not only draw additional visitors to our great city, but will enhance our already strong reputation as the Cowboy Capital of the World.”
Cavender’s is a western wear retailer that sells boots, hats, clothing and accessories.
