Construction on Wendy's is expected to be complete next month.

Jeff Sandford, executive director of the Stephenville Economic Development Authority, delivered good news to members of the city council on Wednesday.

Sandford said that despite the COVID-19 pandemic that has put a hurt on local businesses, plans for Wendy’s, Ulta Beauty and Hobby Lobby are still on track to open.

“Construction on Wendy’s is set to be complete in May,” Sandford said, adding that if restaurants are back in full service, Wendy’s will open in June.

“They have told us they will only open as a full restaurant,” he said.

The new restaurant will be located at the corner of Washington and Ollie streets and will include 2,400 square feet of space and seating for 40.

UPDATE ON WASHINGTON COMMONS

The largest commercial development project in the city’s history is set to bring two national retailers - Ulta Beauty and Hobby Lobby - to Stephenville next year.

The $23 million project called Washington Commons will include 150,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space on a 17-acre parcel of land next to Walmart.

Groundbreaking was expected in March, but the pandemic has slowed things down.

Sandford eased concerns, however, by stating that groundbreaking will take place this year and Hobby Lobby and Ulta are still planning to open in Stephenville in 2021.

Ulta Beauty has been called the “premier beauty destination” for cosmetics, fragrances and skin and hair care products in the U.S.

Founded in 1990, Ulta has 1,200 stores across the nation.

The Stephenville location will include 10,000 square feet of retail space inside Washington Commons.

Hobby Lobby will include more than 50,000 square feet of retail space.

Founded in Oklahoma City in 1972, Hobby Lobby now has more than 800 stores across the country selling everything from home decor to craft and sewing supplies.
