Erath County man in custody after allegedly shooting 13-year-old in leg.
An Erath County man is behind bars after allegedly shooting a 13-year-old in the leg early Sunday morning.
In a statement released by Sheriff Matt Coates, the incident began as a disturbance between two adults at a location off State Highway 67 in Erath County and ended with the juvenile sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg.
“The child victim was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition,” the release states.
Because the victim is a minor, their name will not be released.
The suspected shooter, identified as Mauricio Ruiz Calzontzi, was arrested and charged with injury to a child.
He is being held at the Erath County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
“We want to recognize and thank the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Stephenville Police Department for their assistance,” Coates said. “The joint effort with all departments in this investigation contributed to timely arrests of the suspect.”
