Erath County Sheriff Matt Coates filed for re-election Friday, after serving seven years in office.
Coates was appointed as sheriff by Erath County commissioners on Dec. 20, 2016, serving a little more than two years before he was elected for a two-year term.
He is now completing a four-year term and seeking another.
“It has been a pleasure serving the citizens of Erath County,” Coates told Beneath the Surface News. “I look forward to working for the great people of Erath County if they choose to re-elect me for another four years.”
During his time in office, Coates brought back the Sheriff’s Posse and worked to start a combined narcotics unit with the city of Stephenville.
The sheriff’s office is also on the brink of starting a combined dispatch service with Stephenville, Dublin and Tarleton State University.
The deadline to file for a place on next year’s ballot is Dec. 11.
