The public is invited to attend a book signing and reading to celebrate the publication of John McCarthy: Gunship Pilot Vietnam (ROMAR Press) at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at BJ’s Restaurant and Bar in Stephenville.
McCarthy’s book chronicles the story of his life as a 19-year-old Army helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War, focusing specifically on several months in 1971.
McCarthy draws on the wide range of his experiences fighting in a war that became as harrowing as it was misunderstood.
His unique perspective comes from his experiences of flying his gunship into the heart of battle.
He helped save the lives of literally hundreds of his fellow soldiers and bolstered the hopes of the Vietnamese people, whose democracy he fought hard to secure.
McCarthy’s depictions of the battles he fought in, his unassailable luck, grit and will to survive give readers an honest, bold look into the action and unrelenting drama of war.
McCarthy will be on hand to read select passages and to autograph copies.
Books will be available for purchase at the event for $13.99 and online through Amazon, Barnes and Noble and WalMart.
