Local teacher named SMU Excellent Educator; set to appear on NBC’s Texas Today.

Diana Gibson was interviewed at the NBC studio in Fort Worth. She will appear on Texas Today Nov. 28.

Diana Gibson has been educating area youth for four decades, teaching her students the power of kindness, responsibility and service.

Now, she has received the prestigious SMU Excellent Educator award.

Diana teaches 7th and 8th grade at White Horse Christian Academy and was nominated for the award by Joanna Shaw.

“Instead of lessons in character, responsibility, respect and service, Diana creates opportunities where students can experience the act of giving, selflessness and responsibility,” White Horse executive director Vanessa Halford told Beneath the Surface News.

"She takes her students to walk the dogs at the animal shelter and posts pictures to Facebook with the hope of getting them adopted. The students love ‘Tail Wagging Tuesdays.’”

Diana retired from Stephenville ISD after 37 years of teaching, then began working for White Horse three years ago.

After winning the award, Diana was interviewed by NBC and will be a guest on Texas Today at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 28.

The show airs locally on NBC channel 5.

“Diana is a cheerleader for every student and she sets high goals for them to obtain,” Vanessa said. “We are so blessed that she shares her compassion and talents with our students.”
