Morgan Mill ISD closes in wake of Covid outbreak; Health authority will not ask for mask mandate.

Officials with Morgan Mill ISD have closed school for the week amid an outbreak of Covid-19 among its staff.

The announcement states, “MMISD will be closed this week, August 16-19. We have multiple staff members who have tested positive for Covid. We will use this time to implement quarantining and deep cleaning of the school.”

Meanwhile, the Texas Supreme Court on Sunday upheld Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive order banning local entities from requiring that masks be worn.

The ruling prompted Stephenville’s health authority Dr. Kelly Doggett to change plans to ask the Stephenville ISD board of trustees to reinstate mandatory masks.

“It was never my intent to get SISD into a legal battle or lawsuit with the governor,” Dr. Doggett told Beneath the Surface News. “I only asked for the board of trustees to consider universal masking due to precedent set by other Texas counties and school districts and our current state of public health crisis.”
