When Delaina Taylor and her sister Holli Isham and brother Jody Glasgow were growing up, their father, Robert Glasgow would often ask, “What have you done today to make Texas greater?”

That mindset earned Bob, as most people call him, a reputation for not only caring deeply about Texas, but about his hometown of Stephenville, where he was born and raised.

On Tuesday, the Stephenville City Council honored the former Texas senator by renaming FM 988, known as the Northwest Loop, to Senator Robert J. Glasgow Loop.

“My dad was so surprised and honored and my mom just cried with joy,” Delaina told Beneath the Surface News. “She is so extremely proud for and of him, as we all are. He has a true servant’s heart.”

Mayor Doug Svien read the proclamation renaming the road, which states in part: “The naming of FM 988 as the ‘Senator Robert J. Glasgow Loop’ will help serve to perpetuate the memory of Senator Robert J. Glasgow for his time-honored legacy of dedication, vision and service to the State of Texas and City of Stephenville.”

Glasgow served in the Texas Senate from 1981-1993.

Prior to that he served in the United States Army and as the Erath County district attorney in 1972.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tarleton State College where he was elected class president and student body president.

In 1970, he earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas at Austin.
