Operation Miami: I’m using the HitMeal app to count calories and shed a few pounds by March. Here’s how it’s going.
Updated: 1 day ago
I stopped making New Year’s resolutions a long time ago.
Instead, I decided that when I need to make changes to my lifestyle, I do it right then instead of waiting until Jan. 1.
I’ve tried hard to live by that, and for the most part, I have.
When I started Beneath the Surface News almost five years ago, I vowed to use this platform to connect with other women struggling with the same things I struggle with.
And for me, that’s aging with a healthy body and mindset.
I’m 54, and while I love the peace and wisdom that comes with more than five decades of life lessons, I still want to look and feel my very best.
Three years ago, I lost 20 pounds on Optavia, and I have managed to keep it all off, until recently, when I packed on four pounds during the holiday season.
I realize that four pounds isn’t a lot, but I want to get it off before it spirals into 10, which is why I started “Operation Miami” the day after Christmas.
Dec. 26 is probably an odd time to start a diet, but I was ready. I was tired of rich food, wine and feeling bloated.
Plus, our kids gifted The Husband and I with a Peloton row machine for Christmas and I couldn’t wait to get started.
More importantly, our oldest son is getting married in Miami this March and I don’t want to be a chubby mother of the groom.
THE HITMEAL APP
The first thing I did was download the HitMeal Calorie & Food Tracker app from Apple.
It’s easy to use and allows me to keep track of my daily food intake and create meal plans for a calorie deficit.
It was about $20 for an entire year.
The best part is that it configured the number of calories I need each day to reach my goal weight by March (it’s 1,543).
If I want things to move a little faster, I’ll eat less.
The app is a cinch to use; simply track what you eat every day and HitMeal will count down your daily calorie intake for you.
And it’s fun! I treat meal planning as a hobby and lost three pounds this week by counting my calories and increasing my workouts.
I have 14 pounds to lose by March to reach my goal.
If I make it (and I plan to), I will be at my college weight, a number I haven’t seen in a very long time.
Wish me luck.
