Spring cleaning: These easy, non-toxic hacks will have your home smelling incredibly fresh.

 By Alexis Rochester

I’ve got some quick, science-backed hacks to transform your home's scent this spring.

Forget about masking odors, a clean-smelling home is about addressing common odors and absorbing or neutralizing them.

A clean-smelling home isn't just pleasant; it's vital for well-being.

Studies show pleasant scents boost mood, reduce stress and sharpen the mind.

Learn to use chemistry to turn your space into a great smelling, calming sanctuary this spring season.

Here are my favorite, super easy non-toxic science based tips to make your home smell good

Try opting for natural room and fabric sprays. A few spritzes in key areas like bathrooms and bedrooms can leave a lasting, pleasant aroma.

This brand also works great on fabrics like pillows or couches!

I love how the fragrance is non-toxic and plant-based, but it actually works to eliminate odors.

Use dried lavender

Using dried lavender in bowls or satchels releases a calming scent. Steam from showers reactivates the fragrance.

You can place a bowl in the bathroom or place some in a satchel to hang in the shower. Other dried flowers work too, but lavender is potent with a scent that lingers.

Make this odor-busting duo

Use baking soda and chamomile tea to deodorize your fridge.

This unique mixture neutralizes odors and adds a fresh scent. Check out this easy how- to on mixing these ingredients to eliminate odors in your refrigerator.

Zeolite rocks

These natural rocks absorb bad odors based on chemistry.

Place them around your home and recharge them in sunlight. I especially love these rocks for small spots like bathrooms, closets, drawers and anything with a musty smell.

Clean trash cans:

Regularly clean and disinfect trash cans.

A homemade citric acid spray helps with odors and keeps the inside of your trash can smelling fresh and clean. Don't forget to clean the inside with soap and water regularly too.

Garbage disposal care

Use a DIY non-toxic sink scrub and garbage disposal cleaner to neutralize bad odors associated with the garbage disposal. Natural disposal cleaning pods also make a great option. I use both every few weeks.

Air purifiers

Invest in an air purifier with a HEPA filter to remove pollutants and musty odors, improving overall air quality.

If you have an older home prone to musty smells, adding an air purifier can make all the difference.

These are just a few of my absolute favorite, effective science-based hacks to make your home smell fresh, clean, and inviting this spring season.
