Stephenville family hosts sock collection at Chamberlin Elementary to raise awareness for Down Syndrome.
Stephenville residents Trevor and Kate Powe are once again supporting their daughter Daylee with a fundraising campaign to raise awareness – and funding – for Down Syndrome.
You might remember Daylee from when she was featured in a video in Times Square a couple of years ago as part of an awareness presentation by the National Down Syndrome Society.
“Our family has once again partnered with Pal’s Socks in an attempt to provide socks for every student and teacher at Daylee’s school to wear for World Down Syndrome Day (March 21),” Kate posted on Facebook.
“We have done it the past few years and are excited to do it again at Chamberlin Elementary.”
Here’s how it works: The community is invited to sponsor a student or teacher by purchasing a pair of socks.
Kids socks are $11 and adults are $15.
For every pair purchased through this link, Pals will make a donation to the Down Syndrome Diagnosis Network, the largest national organization supporting new and expectant parents of children with Down Syndrome.
“Every year on World Down Syndrome Day, people wear crazy socks for a movement called ‘Rock Your Socks,’” Kate told Beneath the Surface News.
“Socks look like chromosomes and people with Down Syndrome have an extra chromosome.”
Donations can also be made on Venmo @doitfordaylee.
The fundraiser ends Feb. 20.
