Suspect who allegedly shot local business owner held on $500k bond, but much is still a mystery.

Days after a shooting sent one man to the hospital and another to jail, what transpired between the two at a residence on Meadow Bend Circle last Friday remains a mystery.

Erath County Sheriff Matt Coates said he is not ready to release any new information about the investigation including a possible motive.

The suspect, 75-year-old Ronald Oddo, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is being held on a $500,000 bond at the Erath County Jail.

There are very few clues to what happened that day found in Oddo’s arrest report, which

outlines a timeline – that he was arrested by sheriff’s deputies at 12:25 p.m. at his residence on Friday, June 24 - but says very little about what transpired in the moments prior.

The report states that while deputies were en route to the scene, they were advised that Oddo would be waiting outside.

Deputies arrived at 12:24 p.m., commanded Oddo to get on the ground and placed him into custody.

The report also states that Oddo was sober and allegedly used a black and silver Beretta 32 to shoot Jeff Collins, owner of AA Water Systems.

Collins was airlifted to a Fort Worth hospital where he underwent a more than three-hour surgery and was still hospitalized as of Tuesday.

“We haven’t had a chance to get the victim’s full side of the story, but after we do, we plan to file the case with the DA’s office as soon as possible,” Coates told Beneath the Surface News.
