‘The Stockman’s experience.’ Gordon’s hidden gem is a unique venue with delicious food and great music.

The ribeye is The Stockman's most popular item on its menu.

Boston has Cheers. New York City has Tavern on the Green. And Gordon, TX has The Stockman’s Club.

The Husband and I were invited to dinner at The Stockman’s last Friday by owners Briana Jenney and Rich Goforth.

The Stockman’s Club is more than just an eatery in the tiny town of Gordon. It doubles as a music venue and boasts a unique experience you won’t find anywhere else.

The restaurant is small, making for an intimate dining experience that feels more like an informal gathering with friends.

“We change our menu periodically and always use seasonal, Texas-grown vegetables and produce,” Briana told Beneath the Surface News.

“We try to source everything locally, that’s very important to me.”

The limited menu is full of great choices like beer-battered onion rings, zucchini and okra, wood-fired prime angus ribeye, coconut shrimp and flame-grilled burgers served on a ciabatta bun.

The Husband had its most popular dish – the ribeye – served with a twice-baked potato, fresh asparagus and carrots.

I had the pork chop served with a tangy barbecue cactus sauce that I am still thinking about.

“Rich cooks everything on a Santa Maria Grill and uses pecan wood that we get in Gordon,” Briana said.

The Stockman’s is open for lunch from 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on Thursday and 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. on Friday.

Dinner service on Friday begins at 6 p.m. and there’s live music from 7:30-9:30, which, by the way, was as fantastic as the food.

The artist playing last Friday performed a variety of hits by the Eagles, Lionel Richie and The Beatles.

The bar serves beer, wine and a few cocktails, but you can bring in your own beverages if you prefer something else.

To make a reservation, and they are recommended, call or text 254-293-0062.
