Newton’s Saddlerack in downtown Stephenville is kicking off the fall season with an updated wine list after Chef Mike Newton officially became a sommelier.

“If you want to expand your wine palette, but don’t know which direction to go, as a sommelier, chef can suggest wine pairings that fit any budget,” Melanie Newton told Beneath the Surface News.

“We carry a lot of common labels, but we have added specialty wines from France and Spain that are not available in the area.”

Newton’s is also hosting “Which Team Wears the Apron Better,” a culinary challenge that will pit chefs who competed on MasterChef against those on MasterChef Junior.

The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3.

The four-course dining throw down will feature The Fat Pastor Jr, Asher Niles and Shayne the Train, Shayne Wells, representing MasterChef Junior and The Fat Pastor and Shawn Niles, teaming up with Chef Mike Newton for team MasterChef.

The event will also include Chef Gabriel Lewis who will serve as the evening’s emcee.

Oh, and Newton’s Saddlerack is now taking reservations for holiday parties with an upstairs private dining room that seats 50.

“We also have a new private chef’s table available for parties up to 10,” Melanie said.
